Wir unterstützen Wiederaufforstung - mit jeder Bestellung wird ein Baum gepflanzt.

We support reforestation - with every order a tree is planted.

We support the reforestation of forests in cooperation with Eden Reforestation Projects®

One order = 1 mangrove tree - For every wellow order a mangrove tree is planted

With every order from wellow sauna & spa, you contribute to the planting of mangrove trees in Madagascar. These trees are planted as part of the reforestation projects of Eden Reforestation Projects® and make an important contribution to the preservation of biodiversity, the renaturation of coastal areas and the support of local communities. The mangrove trees are not only a vital carbon sink, but also offer the population a sustainable source of income and promote the protection of flora and fauna.

About Eden Reforestation Projects®

Eden Reforestation Projects® is a non-profit organization that aims to give villagers living in poverty the opportunity to participate in global reforestation projects through fairly paid work. With their "Employ to Plant" approach, they achieve positive socio-economic and ecological effects at the same time. The main objectives of the project are:

  • construction, planting and maintenance of large-scale reforestation projects
  • Preventing further deforestation by combating extreme poverty through employment
  • Restoring the environment through reforestation, improving fisheries, agriculture and carbon sequestration

The approach goes beyond simply planting trees - entire forests are created. In the video below you can get an insight into the reforestation work in Madagascar and other countries.

The impact of mangrove reforestation

Mangroves are unique ecosystems that are also of particular importance to wellow. They are found in large parts of the tropics and occupy the intertidal zones of over 120 countries. These coastal forests are not only valuable to local populations, but also make an important contribution worldwide. They protect coasts from storm surges, provide habitats for fish and other marine life, and provide materials such as timber and fuel. Mangroves also play a crucial role in stabilizing the global climate, as they act as outstanding carbon stores.

Mangrove forests are exceptionally effective carbon stores

Given the rapid increase in greenhouse gas emissions over the last century, the need for effective carbon sinks is greater than ever. At wellow, we know that simply reducing emissions and protecting existing forests is no longer enough. To keep global temperature rise within an "acceptable" range, we must significantly increase the capacity for carbon sequestration. Mangrove systems can store an impressive 20 petagrams of carbon worldwide - making them one of the most significant carbon sinks anywhere. Although mangroves make up less than 5% of the global land area, they sequester even more carbon than many tropical rainforests, including the Amazon. In addition, because mangroves grow quickly, they contribute significantly to reducing greenhouse gases in a short period of time.

Mangrove forests contribute to the preservation of animal and biodiversity

Due to deforestation, many wild animal species are losing their natural habitat and are forced to move to new areas, which significantly reduces their chances of survival. Madagascar, with over 200 species of mammals, 100 species of lemurs, 300 species of birds and almost 300 species of amphibians, is one of the world's most important regions for nature conservation. Around 90% of the animals living there are endemic, meaning they only occur on this island. By working with Eden Reforestation Projects®, wellow is supporting the restoration of these important habitats and helping to protect Madagascar's unique biodiversity.

The reforestation of mangrove forests opens up new opportunities for local people.

By working with Eden Reforestation Projects®, local communities not only receive a secure income, but also a sustainable way to escape poverty - both for the workers and their families. The projects of this global organization also support 10 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and thus actively contribute to strengthening the local population and their livelihoods.
